A family is celebrating the return to Britain of the father they feared had died in the Asian tsunami disaster.
Pensioner Anthony Blake, 70, of Colchester, was holidaying on the Thai island of Ton Sui when the tidal waves struck.
In the days afterwards, his attempts to contact loved ones from an internet cafe failed as he used the wrong e-mail address.
It was not until an airmail letter arrived yesterday - nearly a month after the catastrophe - that contact was finally made.
Mr Blake had written telling them he was safe and well, putting an end to an agonising time for his family.
A statement was issued through the Foreign Office yesterday. In it, one of Mr Blake's children said: "The whole family are absolutely delighted at the safe return of my father Anthony Blake from Thailand."
