A new scheme to recycle electrical goods for use by disadvantaged people in Tendring is proving a victim of its own success.
Appeal - project manager Mark Penn, Andrew Hull, Graham Thomson, Anna Adkins, Nikita Downes and Simon Turner are desperate for more donations to keep their electrical recycling scheme going. (40539-2)
The initiative was set up with about £80,000 in funding from various sources and has already benefited 400 customers across the district. But it is in desperate need of more donations to meet growing demand.
Mark Penn, project manager for Tendring Reuse and Employment Enterprise, said: "We have a vehicle to go round and collect unwanted items, which we can then check to ensure they are safe and working," he said.
"After that, they are redistributed at a nominal cost to people in need. It helps those that cannot afford to buy new and also helps the environment as less white goods are simply dumped."
The project is run from the Oakwood Centre at Plough Corner, Little Clacton, where there is also a shop people can visit. Essex County Council lets the site for a peppercorn rent.
