More public toilets are to close as part of the council revamp.
Loos in St John's and North Station Road have already been axed after becoming sex and drugs dens. Butt Road and Willoughby Avenue in West Mersea are earmarked for demolition.
Prettygate will also close and public toilets on Greenstead will stay shut. "Flagship" lavatories in Lion Walk will get a £95,000 refit including a hoist for the disabled.
In total, Colchester Council plans to spend £825,000 revamping the borough's public toilets.
Mr McManus said the changes were the result of an extensive consultation period.
"We took on board a lot of comments that were made," he said.
