Vandals who hurled a stone through the window of a moving train could have killed someone.
The stone smashed a double-glazed window in a passing London Liverpool Street to Braintree service. The train was delayed by ten minutes while railway staff made it safe to continue on its journey.
Parents are being asked to try to be aware of what their children are up to. The latest attack took place where the railway runs behind the Safeway store in Braintree Road, Witham.
A group of youths was seen in the supermarket car park throwing missiles at passing trains at about 3pm on Tuesday.
No-one was injured but police have warned that the incident could have ended in tragedy.
A police spokesman said: "This was an incredibly stupid and irresponsible act that could have resulted in serious injury or even a fatality."
Anyone with information should call British Transport Police on 01473 601978, quoting incident number 275 of January 18.
