World number two Colin Lloyd is hungry for success as the launch of the Premier League darts show gets under way.

Hungry for success - Witham's Colin Lloyd. 39075-a

The Witham ace is thrilled to get the show on the road tonight - even though his opening round opponent could not be any tougher.

The 31-year-old, nicknamed 'Jaws', is to face the world's finest Phil 'The Power' Taylor on his home turf in Stoke as the new competition kicks-off.

And it cannot come soon enough for Lloyd, who watched the Premier League snooker event take place at Colchester's Charter Hall seven days ago.

Lloyd thoroughly enjoyed his night, taking in live action from four of the game's top players. So much so that he's looking forward to bringing the darts equivalent to Charter Hall this May.

For the time being, however, Lloyd is concentrating on the job in hand by turning in a good performance against Taylor at a sell-out King's Hall tonight.

Lloyd told the Gazette: "Maybe meeting Phil on the opening night might work in my favour. He might still be tired from the world championships so I'm hoping to do well as it's definitely a competition I've got a good chance of winning."
