The bus station is set to be built on what is currently Osborne Street, and link with the proposed Vineyard Gate shopping development.
It is a key part of the St Botolph's Quarter regeneration which will include an art gallery, magistrates' court, retail and shopping developments.
A new department store, expected to be House of Fraser, will be at the heart of the Vineyard Gate development.
The unveiling today by Colchester Council is for the plans for the bus station, along with drawings of the scheme, and the Vineyard Gate development.
The council said it could not afford to upgrade the current bus station.
The overall masterplan for the St Botolph's Quarter will go before a special meeting of the full Colchester Council on February 24.
