A new cashpot of more than £800,000 is up for grabs for community projects in west Clacton.
The money is in the bank waiting to be spent and the aim is to allocate at least £200,000 of it by March 2006.
The funding is being dished out in grants by the Essex Community Foundation Panel, under the Fair Share Trust.
It is looking for projects to support and opportunities to aid family development and address issues relevant to children and young people, such as new safe play areas.
The panel, which will decide on the grants, also wants schemes which enhance the local environment. This can include CCTV systems or initiatives giving young people the chance to develop skills, such as helping to renovate buildings.
Judy-May Brandy, programmes director, said the race was on to find projects which fit the bill.
