THORPE Bay were crowned Jubilee Cup champions after beating Westcliff Lawn 2-1 in the final.
Things got off to a good start for Thorpe when the strong pairing of club coach Jon Lee and Simon Cuthbert beat Roger Peters and Ian McDonald 6-1 6-3.
But Lawn captain Steve Wynn and Jackie Moody levelled the final with a 6-2 7-6 mixed doubles win over David Tubbs and Sarah Naylor. The second set win came after a tense 7-5 tie break.
But Westcliff, who were hosting the annual Southend and District LTA tournament's showdown, were unable to secure the ladies' doubles.
The young Thorpe pairing of Jade Blackman and Sarah Needham eventually beat Lawn first team regulars Diana Carradus and Gill Sanderson 2-6 6-3 6-2 in the only match not won in straight sets.
Southend and District LTA president Frank Pike presented the trophy to David Tubbs on behalf of Thorpe Bay.
The final attracted a large number of spectators and the standard of play was high.
