Colchester MP Bob Russell has welcomed news of the agreement to build the new community stadium - and paid tribute to the Gazette's campaign.
Mr Russell, a U's season ticket holder and the Liberal Democrats' sports spokesman, paid tribute to everybody involved in taking matters forward, particularly U's chairman Peter Heard.
He said: "This has been a team effort. It has been a very complicated procedure, but all the pieces of the jigsaw are now on the table and it only remains for the last few to be put into place. The picture looks very good."
Mr Russell added: "The Gazette's campaign has focused the attention of the council on the stadium when perhaps it was not there."
