One of the Europe's leading sail manufacturers has relocated from Benfleet to Southampton. Hyde Sails confirmed that four admin staff had been made redundant but declined to say how many workers staff had moved to Southampton. It is believed the company used to employ about 75 people in Benfleet. Sales manager Richard Franks said: "We have had to consolidate this business and relocate to Southampton. Most of the sailing in this country is based around Southampton and the Isle of Wight." Hyde Sails was developed in 1965 when Edward Hyde, a sailmaker, joined forces with Keith Musto, from Benfleet, who later went on to win an Olympic silver medal using the sails. Hyde and Musto split when Keith decided to focus on clothing for sailors.
