A worker suffered a hand injury after a mechanical press landed on his thumb.
The accident happened at the Seco Aluminium plant in Crittal Road, Witham.
An ambulance and emergency care practitioner were sent to the scene after the alarm was raised at 2.15pm yesterday.
An ambulance service spokesman said: "The machine presses down at a pressure of three tons per square inch, but is only down for a moment.
"The 55-year-old Witham man caught his right thumb in the machine. He suffered a very painful crush injury.
"Astonishingly, the thumb appeared only to have suffered bruising and was very swollen."
