A new rubbish dump is set to open in Braintree.
Plans for a civic amenity and recycling centre have been proposed by Essex County Council.
The site earmarked is at the end of Springwood Drive, near to the Springwood industrial estate.
A county council spokesman said the dump, along with another proposed facility in Halstead, would replace the exisiting civic amenity site in Shalford.
He said the Shalford site was in a poor state of repair and due to the arrangement at the centre, the bins can only be removed when it is not in use. It will be closed as soon as the Braintree centre is opened.
Peter Tattersley, head of environmental services at Braintree District Council, welcomed the plan.
He said: "Basically the site at Shalford is old and past its best. The new site will be a lot closer to where people live and it will be a state-of-the-art facility. So we look forward to it being here."
The plan will be discussed at a meeting of the county council's development and regulation committee on Friday.
