The 2005/06 council tax rise in Witham looks set to be a lot less controversial than last year's increase.
Last night, Witham Town Council discussed the 2005/06 rise in its precept, the portion of council tax paid by Witham residents to the town council.
This year sees an increase from £45.58 to £46.48 a year for a typical band D property - 90p, or less than a two per cent increase.
There was controversy in 2004/05 when the precept rose from £38.86 to £45.58 a year for a typical band D property, a 21 per cent increase.
This year, the council wants to spend money on community facilities such as playgrounds and aims to provide a new pedestrian crossing at Rickstones Road to improve safety for people coming from the Forest Road area.
