Darren Bent admitted a 'massive weight' had been lifted from his shoulders after grabbing two goals against Coventry City.

The Ipswich Town striker netted a brace in Saturday's 3-2 Coca-Cola Championship success at Portman Road.

Strike partner Shefki Kuqi slammed home the all-important winner as table-topping Town maintained their two-point lead over second-placed Wigan.

And Bent - who last scored on December 21 - said: "It was a perfect afternoon because I got two goals and the team three points.

"The first goal really perked me up and was a massive weight off my shoulders.

"Fabian Wilnis crossed from the right and I managed to get in front of my marker and get a toe on it. Then, for my second, it was a tight angle. I tried to lift it over the keeper and was very pleased to see the ball bounce in off the far post."

Town boss Joe Royle admitted Bent would have been given a well-earned rest for last weekend's FA Cup defeat against Bolton. But Dean Bowditch was ill so he had to play.
