CANVEY Island soccer boss Jeff King admitted that the "feelgood factor" would play a major part in his side's ambition to continue making progress in the FA Trophy competition.

Gulls defeated Bath City 3-0 in the third round on Saturday.

Several Nationwide Conference clubs have made it plain that non-league soccer's top knockout competition comes very much second best in their plans compared to their battle for play-off places or survival in the league.

Indeed Saturday's third round, the first stage main Conference clubs were involved in, produced the usual plethora of shock results for leading sides, who had taken the prize just once in four years.

But King insisted: "Whatever we're playing in I always want my team to win.

"The Trophy has been good to us over the years, winning it in 2001 and being beaten finalists last season, and we'd love to have a good run again."
