A fisherman looked on in disbelief as his car was almost swept out to sea.
It can't be ... it is - bystanders on Frinton beach watch in amazement as the tide swallows the car. Picture: TERRY WEEDEN 40454-3
Simon Edwards, of Colchester, had used his Rover vehicle to tow a fishing boat on to the beach at Frinton.
But when the car got stuck in wet sand on Friday, he was powerless to prevent the tide from coming in and flooding it.
By the time the sea ebbed, the car had moved more than 100 yards and it took eight men and a Jeep to hoist it out of the beach.
Mr Edwards, of Lanvalley Road, said: "I just had a nightmare."
Amazingly, the car is still running, although it was filled up to the wheel with sand and stones.
