The Ministry of Defence is to review procedures in the light of the Sally Geeson murder case to see "if lessons can be learned".
Among the issues to be looked at by the MoD would be not routinely informing police of soldiers' convictions, a spokesman confirmed last night.
Ms Geeson was murdered by Lance Corporal David Atkinson after vanishing in the early hours of New Year's Day after celebrating the start of 2005 in a Cambridge pub.
The move comes a day after Rochford and Southend East MP, Sir Teddy Taylor, said he was going to ask the Government to look at how offenders are treated and monitored.
