Age won out over experience when four of the world's best snooker players battled on the green baize at Colchester.

Jimmy White in action at Colchester's Charter Hall

Four big guns in the game - Jimmy White, Ronnie O'Sullivan, Mark Williams, and Paul Hunter - went head-to-head in a Premier League clash - sponsored by the Gazette - at Colchester's Charter Hall.

Paul Hunter was largely reduced the role of spectator as former world champion Mark Williams took control of the opening match, winning 5-1 with the aid of three century breaks.

And the eagerly-anticipated clash between crowd favourites Jimmy White and reigning world champion Ronnie O'Sullivan proved almost as unexpectedly one-sided.

The Whirlwind outpaced the Rocket and White triumphed 4-2. O'Sullivan's game appeared out of sorts but he still treated the crowd to a mini-exhibition in winning the final frame, at one stage alternating between left-handed and right-handed shots.
