Tributes have been paid to a popular taxi driver who died just weeks after being diagnosed with cancer
Sam Bready, 60, of Hayes Road, Clacton, worked with cab firms in the town for more than 20 years.
His sister Sue Johnson said that he had been taken into Colchester General Hospital with bowel problems and it was discovered that he was suffering from cancer.
Mr Bready also suffered a stroke and died within weeks of his diagnosis.
He was born and brought up in Thorpe and had a number of jobs.
Mrs Johnson said he worked at the Co-op's wet fish shop in Rosemary Road for a time and managed to pick up a speeding fine while riding his trade bike.
Mr Bready was also employed as a milkman for both the Co-op and Dairy Crest but it was as a taxi driver that he was best known.
His funeral will be held at Weeley Crematorium on Tuesday. Mrs Johnson said: "He lived life for the day not tomorrow. He had a great sense of humour and enjoyed socialising. He was very popular."
