The world of local sport will pay tribute to Roy Gibson when his funeral service takes place at Southend Crematorium on Monday (12 noon).
A reception at Southend Rugby Club will follow for friends and colleagues of the 57-year-old best remembered for his goalkeeping days, particularly with now defunct local side Blenheim Sports.
He later played for Benfleet in the Essex Olympian League and was with Leigh Billet on Sundays.
Roy went on to coach at Southend Manor and also had a love of cricket. He played for Gaslight and later went on to coach youngsters at Westcliff and Essex cricket clubs.
