One of the biggest events on Maldon's entertainment calendar could face the axe if no financial help comes forward.
Real Music Festival was due to be under the spotlight at a district council meeting this month.
Organisers are asking for free use of Promenade Park for the 2005 event, a community grant of £10,000 and additional support and funding for a classical evening - a new addition to the weekend line-up.
Maldon District Council officers have recommended free use of the popular tourist attraction be agreed by members of the community services committee next Tuesday.
A lot of the funding will come from local businesses which will sponsor the event but a substantial amount of financial support is needed from the district council.
Richard Heard, leisure and community development team leader at the council, said: "Without significant funding from Maldon District Council, the Real Music Festival is unlikely to happen."
