The future of a group which provides vital support for stroke victims in Tendring hangs in the balance.
Clacton Stroke Association should discover by the end of the month whether a bid for cash funding has been successful.
If the money is not found to pay for transport to and from its base in Frinton Road, Holland-on-Sea, organisers will have to consider whether the facility can continue.
The assocation first revealed a cash crisis last May but with tremendous support from the community it was able to keep going.
Now much depends on the application to Essex County Council and Tendring Primary Care Trust for finance from the voluntary sector funding pot.
"We are currently waiting to hear whether we have been successful," said co-ordinator Rosemary Garrey.
