A school pupil was airlifted to hospital after collapsing on a playing field.

The 16-year-old boy was playing hockey at 11.50am yesterday at the Harwich School, in Hall Lane, Dovercourt.

He was attended by a community first responder and was flown by Essex Air Ambulance to Colchester General Hospital, where he was said to be "comfortable" today.

Paramedic Robbie Robinson said: "We were told that the youngster sat down during the game and then simply collapsed.

"He was passing into and out of consciousness."
