State-of-the-art emergency points will be installed in Southend High Street as part of a pioneering initiative to cut late-night violence.
In a joint scheme between police and borough council, a direct phone link will be installed on four "i-points" around the town centre so anyone who feels in danger can speak to a CCTV operator.
The operator can then direct cameras to watch the caller and ensure they are safe.
Police officers can be sent out to investigate.
The help points will be added on to the council's four i-points which were installed in the High Street in March last year.
The i-points currently provide limited access to internet as well as information on events taking place in the town.
People who have been victims of crime and had their mobile phone stolen or who do not own a mobile will also be able to quickly contact the emergency services without having to find a phone box.
