A driver had his jacket ripped in a rush-hour road rage attack in Colchester.
The incident started when the victim had a stone thrown at his car as he waited in traffic in Balkerne Hill.
Acting Det Sgt Mike Sheeran said that after the stone was thrown the victim walked to a car with four men in it, whom he thought were responsible.
He said when he got to the blue Ford Mondeo estate, four men got out and dragged him back towards his own car, damaging his jacket but not causing injuries.
The attackers continued to assault and shout abuse at the victim, who is from Colchester, before letting him go.
Police are urging anyone in the area of Balkerne Hill at the time of the attack, about 4.30pm yesterday, to come forward.
