The Bramston Sports centre gym was reopened by councillor Tony Shelton on Saturday after a two-week, £150,000 refit.
DC Leisure the company, which runs the centre has paid for and installed the new apparatus, including cardiovascular equipment which can be plugged into headphones so that members can listen to music.
There is a range of new treadmills, steppers, and resistance machines for toning-up exercises and the refurbished gym features an indoor cycling studio with ten bikes.
The interior of the gym has been redecorated, new flooring put down and new carpets fitted.
Joby Humm, marketing manager at the centre, said: "It's all state-of-the-art equipment and we hope that it will attract even more new members this year"
