SOUTHEND started 2005 on a high by completing a league double over Westcombe Park, which nudged them into the top half of the table.
The Seasiders beat Westcombe 38-24 at Warners Bridge and are now seventh in the National League Three South table.
"This was a great start to the year for us as a team," said Southend player Jaco du Toit.
"We began the game aggressively and were able to keep control throughout most of the match.
"We made a few mistakes , but we will work on them and continue to get better."
