Rotting waste is piling up in the streets after another collection was abandoned.
Some residents are now facing three weeks of uncollected waste, and the councillor responsible for waste said he cannot give a date when the service will be back on track.
Colchester Council did not collect waste on the seasonal bank holidays, and had hoped to have caught up by the end of last week.
But it was caught out by the extra waste from Christmas, causing further delays.
And to make matters worse, Essex County Council closed the Bellhouse landfill site on Saturday, leading to extra black bag collections on that day being abandoned.
Colchester, Tendring and Braintree councils use the site for dumping waste.
