A full investigation has been launched after a workman suffered severe arm injuries when he was crushed by a bucket on a digger at a recycling centre.
The accident happened at the Wellwick Wharf at Martins Farm civic amenity site, off the B1027 Colchester Road, St Osyth, just after 3pm on Friday.
A rapid response vehicle, ambulance, paramedic manager, the air ambulance and firefighters from Clacton were all sent to the scene and the man was airlifted to hospital in Colchester.
It is not believed that his injuries were life- threatening.
John Nicholls, clinical operations manager, said the man had been working in what was effectively a large skip.
"The bucket of a digger came down and struck him, crushing his right arm," he said.
A spokesman for Essex County Council, which runs the site, said it had been notified of what had happened but was still waiting for further details and information about the extent of the man's injuries.
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has been informed about the accident and will be carrying out a full investigation.
