One of Chelmsford's main traffic routes could re-open a day earlier than planned.
Engineers have been working through the Christmas holiday on the £2.7 million project to strengthen Widford Bridge on the A1114 and slotted the 350 tonne prefabricated bridge into place on Boxing Day.
The route could open to light traffic tomorro a day ahead of schedule.
Derek Smalley, of Nuttalls engineers, senior site agent, said: "It's all going smoothly. Trains were able to run as normal again from 10pm on Tuesday night, and although the road is supposed to be open on January 2, it could be ready a bit earlier."
