Police are becoming increasingly concerned about the health of a mental patient missing from hospital since Boxing Day.
Paul Doherty, 41, was last seen at Runwell Hospital, near Wickford, on Sunday afternoon. He has been a patient at the establishment since July 2002.
A police spokesperson said: "Paul has now been missing for three days and will be running out of his medication for his illness.
"As a result of this we are becoming increasingly concerned for his well being."
Mr Doherty is described as white, 5ft 4ins tall, and stocky with short brown hair. He speaks with an Irish accent.
He was last seen wearing a blue jacket, white T-shirt, black tracksuit trousers and trainers.
He has family in the Thurrock area and police and hospital staff are keeping them in touch with the latest developments.
Officers have made a number of enquiries at addresses in London and Essex in the past few days.
Anyone who has seen Mr Doherty or knows where he may be staying is asked to contact Basildon Police on 01268 532212.
