A walker has hit out at untidy anglers, claiming they are putting dogs' lives at risk.
The woman, who did not want to be named, said recreational fishermen on the promenade at Holland-on-Sea were constantly discarding their rubbish, including dangerous hooks.
Now she has called on them to be more considerate after one dog was seriously injured after eating bait left behind.
A hook was still attached to the bait, which became embedded in the dog's tongue and leg, and had to be removed at a cost of about £150.
The woman from Holland-on-Sea said her dog also had a lucky escape and has called on action before a dog loses its life or a child is injured.
Earlier this year, she and her husband managed to retrieve a hook stuck in its tongue before it caused more damage.
She said: "They leave newspapers with bait in them and hooks, plastic bags and their lines. It's dangerous for dogs and children if they were to pick it up on the beach. If they swallowed a hook it would kill them."
