Richard Naylor admitted having a few nerves as Ipswich Town hung on to pip Stoke City 1-0.
The Blues extended their stay at the top of the Coca-Cola Championship on Tuesday after Shefki Kuqi's first-half goal earned them three points at Portman Road.
And Naylor told the Gazette: "We really had to dig in during the second half.
"Some of the football we played in the first period was top quality, so we had to mix it up in order to get three points.
"It's always difficult when the score's 1-0, especially when you have that much pressure and dominance.
"We were disappointed not to be further in front and, if you miss chances, you always worry it's going to come back and haunt you."
Town are back in action on New Year's Day when they entertain fellow promotion hopefuls West Ham.
