Unicef's chelmsford and mid-Essex branch is raising money for the Asian Earthquake appeal.
The charity organisation is also requesting donations from any group which can assist in helping people in the Far East.
Branch chairman Patrick Bermingham said the organisation has depots close to the areas in trouble.
Rather than send items directly from this country, it collects money which will be sent out to another country, in this case Dubai, to purchase things to send on to people in need.
He said: "Diseases could be a problem within a week or two. Medical support will be very important. We have a very good team of volunteers here in Chelmsford. They will be doing their bit."
Volunteers will be collecting in High Chelmer precinct tomorrow, from 9am to 4pm.
