SOUTHEND United striker Lawrie Dudfield was quick to criticise assistant referee Ian Gosling following the Shrimpers' 1-0 reverse to Mansfield Town at Roots Hall yesterday afternoon.
The former Hull City forward saw his last-gasp effort controversially ruled out for offside and revealed he had been surprised by the dubious decision to disallow his fine finish.
"When it went in my initial reaction was that it was a perfectly good goal," said Dudfield. "It was a bit of a goal mouth scramble and there were loads of bodies on the line, so it seems virtually impossible for anyone to be offside in there.
"It was apparently given against Mark Bentley though and it was obviously very disappointing because we thought we had rescued a point."
Despite the defeat however, Blues still sit fourth in the League Two table and Dudfield remains confident the Shrimpers can bounce back to winning ways against Rushden and Diamonds this weekend.
