A man from Braintree died and five others were taken to hospital after an accident on the A130.
The crash, involving four cars, happened at 3.50pm yesterday where the A130 crosses over the A129 near Rettendon in south Essex.
A car heading northbound crossed the central reservation and was involved in a collision with a car coming south. Two further cars then went into the wreckage.
Six ambulances, four paramedic managers and a Basics doctor were sent to the scene.
