Katie Creed was recently diagnosed with a rare tumour, the size of a melon, in the peripheral nervous system. It occurs in approximately one in 100,000 children.
But following an operation in November to have most of the tumour - called a ganglioneuroma - removed, Katie, of Alfred Road, Witham, is starting to feel much better and is looking forward to opening her presents on Christmas Day.
Mum Lisa Creed, 34 said: "Beforehand, Katie was always tired and irritable, but now she feels much better and is beginning to run around as fast as her sister.
"She basically has a new lease of life".
Doctors monitoring the non-cancerous growth are hopeful she will eventually make a full recovery.
