A man has been jailed for a road rage attack in Colchester.

Nicholas French, 31, shunted a car when it overtook him and then pushed the driver in the eye and nose, a court heard.

The groundworker, of Waterworks Close, Layer de la Haye, lost his temper after David Hindle passed him in Layer Road on July 10 last year.

Colchester magistrates were told yesterday that French admitted dangerous driving and common assault.

Gregor McKinley, prosecuting, said the road rage incident happened as the victim made his way home from Chelmsford.

Lucy Osborn, mitigating, said: "The aggrieved drove up very close behind Mr French in what he would say was in a dangerous manner.

"The aggrieved then used very abusive and offensive language toward Mr French for no actual reason whatsoever. This made Mr French lose his temper."

French was given two two-month custodial sentences to run consecutively. He was also disqualified from driving for 12 months and ordered to pay £150 compensation.
