Attempts to extend opening times at a chalet park could turn the buildings into shanty homes, it has been claimed.
The owners of Clear Springs park in Low Road, Dovercourt, have applied for occupation between March 1 and January 14 in any one year.
At a meeting of Harwich Town Council, some members welcomed the idea and said it would boost the town.
However, others were concerned the chalets would become full-time homes and they emphasised that was not appropriate.
Les Double said: "It worries me that they become attractive investments and people are looking for a quality home in a chalet.
"That is what has caused the problems at Jaywick. It will not bring about leisure, it will put people in sub-standard houses."
The council opted not to support the application by seven votes to two. The final decision will go to a meeting of Tendring Council's Development Control Committee
