Setback - Kem Izzet has hit a stumbling block in his bid to rediscover fitness. 37451-4
The tenacious Colchester United midfielder has been struggling with ankle ligament damage and was making good progress.
However, on Tuesday evening his foot began aching again and he was not able to take part in full training yesterday.
He told the Gazette: "Up until Tuesday my recovery was going well. I came off the training pitch really happy.
"However, over the course of the evening it got painful and yesterday I couldn't train fully because it was too sore."
Izzet sustained the ankle injury back in a pre-season friendly against Watford at Layer Road.
A scan discovered ankle ligament damage and it may require more specialist treatment to solve it - the sooner the better for the former Charlton Athletic trainee.
He said: "The time has been dragging by, especially since my three games, which were really enjoyable. So to be out is really disappointing."
