A teenager has been locked up for Christmas after a "savage assault" on a teacher.

Aaron Barnham was sentenced to a six-month detention and training order after pleading with magistrates to give him another chance.

The 14-year-old, of Spruce Avenue, Greenstead, was breaching an anti-social behaviour order (Asbo) by committing the offence, an order he had already breached twice since it was put in place in February.

He denied the common assault, on July 16, and blamed it on his friend, but was found guilty at trial.

Mr Veen was approached by Barnham while talking to his girlfriend on the phone in Colchester.

He was slapped across the stomach and, in the course of the following attack, had a large stone thrown at him and was punched before being pushed into the road.

Barnham was also sentenced to a six-month detention and training order for breaching the Asbo, which will run concurrently with the other sentence.
