Thanks to a £28,000 lottery grant, a new roof is being put on Bateman's Tower in Promenade Way.
Built in 1883 as a folly, the tower once had a light on the top and was used by people using the river as a landmark.
Despite no longer being officially used for this purpose, the tower, owned by Tendring Council, is currently rented by Colne Yacht Club.
Club member Mick Runacres has been campaigning to get the tower, which stands at 50ft with its new roof, back to its former self and secured a grant to pay for the project.
