Darren Currie's excitement levels are almost at boiling point.

Ipswich Town's recent recruit will make his home debut in tonight's Coca-Cola Championship top-of-the-table clash with leaders Wigan Athletic.

And Currie, who will take the place of suspended midfielder Kevin Horlock, is raring to go.

The 30-year-old told the Gazette: "It's a natural lift and a natural buzz when you're running in front of 25 to 26,000 fans in a proper football stadium and it makes it a lot easier to get up for a game.

"And with everything connected tonight by making my home debut and in front of a big crowd, I'll be working on adrenaline."

Currie, who was signed from Championship rivals Brighton 11 days ago, made himself an instant hit with Town fans when he turned in a man-of-the-match performance at QPR, turning the game on its head when he came on as a second-half substitute.

When he replaced Horlock on 55 minutes with Town 2-1 down, he was involved in the build-up to Darren Bent's equaliser before scoring the third goal in their 4-2 triumph.

Reflecting on his dream debut, Currie said: "I had a sore ear over that weekend due to all the phone calls I received but that's obviously nice.

"But the first two days at the club went by so quickly and it was nice to have a reality check after the QPR game and working with the lads and settling in last week. Last Updated on Tue 21 December 19104 at 11:0
