Chelmsford police division is one of the worst in the country when it comes to solving robberies, according to figures.
However, the division is attempting to address the problem and has put the figures down to an increase in street crime and a lack of detections in the statistics.
Ewen Wilson, detective inspector of Chelmsford police, said: "We are aware there has been an increase in the number of street crimes in Chelmsford which get classified as robberies.
"We have set up an operation to address this problem.
"The Chelmsford division has a low crime level and due to the rise in robberies we have committed resources to using all available tactics in order to catch the robbers.
"There are a lot of detections which are not included in the statistics, however."
Internal Home Office data shows the Chelmsford Division solve 9.64 per cent of robberies leaving only two divisions below it in the country.
