Colchester is being given £140,000 to reduce homelessness.
Much of the money, which is part of £150 million dished out by the Government to tackle the problem nationally, will be used to stop people getting into situations which could lead to them to becoming homeless.
Phil Harris, Colchester Council housing needs and options manager, welcomed the money, which he said would help continue the work already been done to reduce homelessness.
He said the way services were delivered had been altered since a homelessness strategy was introduced in the borough.
Colchester has always had quite high levels of homelessness for the eastern region.
Mr Harris said the money awarded by the Government recognised the work which had been done to date.
