A schoolgirl was left with head injuries after she was struck by a bus's open luggage compartment as it passed her on the road.
Ray Stannard, crime reduction officer at Maldon police, said the youngster had just got off the school bus in Danbury High Street when the accident happened.
He said: "Another bus carrying schoolchildren was following it and as she walked up the road it passed her and the open compartment door hit her on the head."
Mr Stannard added: "Both the driver of the Webbs bus, which hit her, and the driver of her school bus, a Stephensons bus, stopped their vehicles and made sure she was all right.
"Her parents were called and she was taken to the doctors. She had quite a bruise and a cut on her head but the injuries were not serious."
The accident was reported to the police by the bus company but no further action will be taken, Mr Stannard said.
