Major improvements are to be made to sports facilities at Promenade Park in Maldon.
Maldon District Council has lodged an application to revamp the cricket pavilion at the popular park by knocking it down, along with the changing rooms, and building a brand new one with four changing rooms and a new sports pavilion.
Cash for the improvements, which will be carried out on the same site as the existing sports facilities at the rear of the main recreation ground, will come from the district council's government Liveability grant of £2.8 million, which it received earlier this year.
A training/social room would also be provided at the southern end of the building.
Planning officers at the district council have recommended the plan be approved at the central area planning meeting on January 5.
