Firefighters in Halstead dealt with a blaze which broke out at a packaging firm, causing a canteen to fill with smoke.

The fire brigade was called to RPC Containers in Fourth Avenue on the Bluebridge Industrial Estate, after an electrical fault with a drinks machine caused smoke to fill a canteen room.

Firefighters equipped with breathing apparatus entered the building and took the machine outside where they put the fire out. Staff who were evacuated were then able to return.

A spokesman for the company explained: "It was only a minor fire and it was dealt with swiftly."
