Campaigning pensioners have won a battle for better recycling facilities in their road.
Wheelie pleased - Pat Burke, Joan Spink and Rita Powell share their delight at receiving new bins with district councillor Steve Henderson who backed theior campaign. (40147-1)
Elderly residents now have several large communal wheelie bins in Elizabeth Road, Dovercourt.
A petition had been organised by three women, who were concerned that mounting piles of paper rubbish were creating a fire hazard.
They wanted somewhere to dispose of their recyclables so they were not left accumulating in the flats.
Pat Burke, who is disabled, helped organise the petition and said: "We are so pleased with the result and it seems to be working.
"It is a big relief to be able to get rid of the paper and stuff because it stacks up and the thought of it catching fire terrifies me."
Residents had been trying to get better recycling facilities for six months.
They approached Tendring Council, which sent out recycling officer Bill Smith and environment portfolio holder Michael Talbot to assess the situation.
