Five men had a lucky escape today after a multiple pile-up on the A12 which caused huge tailbacks.
A van and four cars were involved in the smash which happened on the London-bound track at Boreham.
Three of the vehicles suffered extensive damage and oil was spread across the road as a result of the crash, which happened just before 6am.
Emergency care practitioner Steve Colmer the first person from the emergency services on scene said: "The five men in these vehicles have all had lucky escapes.
"You would have expected injuries given the level of damage to the vehicles.
"I made sure all of them were safely out of their vehicles and standing at the side of the road.
"Each was given a check over but none were hurt or wanted to go to hospital for a precautionary checkup."
Tailbacks from the scene stretched as far as Kelvedon.
